Fitzgerald's dialogue—mini-analysis Pat Hobby

Pat Hobby Says that he is a writer for pictures. When he said " Would you be able to pay in advance?" it shows that he is smart at cheating people out of their money, because if he gets caught that he is not a tour guide, he would still have some of the money. Pat and Fitzgerald are alike in that they are both writers and they used to be famous but now they are some what like has-beens. While he is talking to Gus, it showed that Pat was a really good liar and could come up with random bs on the spot, " they might be working in the studios.", and when he says " well, you see we're on strike,". He is also a really selfish person, in a way were if people are in trouble because of him, then he rather help himself then the others. This is shown when he is in the last house, when he sees the car pulling up, he runs away with out warning his cilents, just hopes that the people forget his name and the owner of the house, Ronald Colman, doesn't remember his last name, proving that he is really only looking out for himself.
